The hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 is like no other game, likely due to the fact that it’s been over a decade since the release of GTA 5.
Fans have been waiting a long time for a glimpse of Rockstar Games’ next project, and their patience was finally rewarded on December 4, 2023. Now, seven months down the line, that trailer is about to hit a record 200 million views.
The Most Popular GTA Trailer Ever
When it made its debut on December 4, 2023, GTA 6 Trailer 1 was already breaking records, becoming the most-viewed non-music video in a 24-hour period.
In its first day online, the trailer was viewed 90 million times, almost doubling the previous record for views. During that time, GTA 6 Trailer 1 also received over 8.6 million likes from viewers.
Now, seven months after launch, our first look at GTA 6 is fast approaching 200 million views, and it’s not done yet!

This is, of course, excluding views on social media sites such as Facebook or X, as well as views on re-uploads which are common on YouTube.
Shot-for-shot recreations, such as this GTA 6 trailer that features the GTA 5 cast, have also racked up millions of views in the months since the Grand Theft Auto 6 debut.

How Does This Compare to GTA 5?
By contrast, the first GTA 5 Trailer, which was released on November 2, 2011, is the second most popular upload on the Rockstar Games channel, currently sitting at 110 million views.
That 90 million view difference is staggering, particularly given that the GTA 5 trailer has been slowly accruing views for over a decade. However, it certainly shows how highly anticipated GTA 6 is to the gaming community.
We’re certain that GTA 6 Trailer 1 will see significant bumps in viewership when Rockstar Games periodically releases new information about the upcoming title too.
And when Trailer 2 finally drops, it’s likely to take at least second place on the list of Rockstar’s most popular uploads.
Although we still don’t know the exact release date for GTA 6’s second trailer, we expect one to arrive towards the end of the year.
