GTA 6 is giving players a lot more to do than simply robbing stores, escaping the police and completing story missions.
New details about the game’s side activities have revealed just how much Rockstar has packed into the world of Leonida, with everything from gyms and fishing to dating, racing, hunting and even managing how much Jason and Lucia sleep.
What makes these details stand out is that many of these activities are not just there to fill time. They can actually connect to the characters’ stats, appearance, relationships and progression.
Jason and Lucia, for example, can gain weight if they eat too much, while their muscles can decrease if they stop working out.
Rockstar is also tracking their sleep. Getting enough rest can help certain attributes recover, while staying awake for too long can slow that recovery down.
Players may even notice bags under Jason or Lucia’s eyes when they haven’t been sleeping properly.

It’s another example of Rockstar adding small details that could make GTA 6’s open world feel more alive.
The gym system is particularly interesting. Jason and Lucia can work out together, and going to the gym with your partner can even turn into what Rockstar describes as an “emergent date.”
Some gyms may require memberships, with the preview showing the characters signing up at the front desk before starting their workout.
Working out isn’t just a simple animation either. Players can use equipment such as bench presses, lat pulldowns, treadmills, punching bags and squat stations.
Weightlifting uses the L2 and R2 triggers, while stamina drops during each set. Coffee and energy drinks can temporarily give players more stamina, allowing them to get through more reps.
The workouts can also have a real effect on the characters. Strength training increases health, while cardio and other exercises can improve stamina.
Fishing is another activity that seems to have received a major upgrade. Rockstar’s Rob Nelson reportedly compared the depth of GTA 6’s fishing system to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Unlike RDR2, however, GTA 6 uses a catch-and-release system, so players won’t be taking their fish home.

Fishing can also connect to story content, collectibles and challenges, meaning it could become much more than something players do when they have nothing else to do.
Hunting will have a more practical purpose too, as players can use it to make money.
The activity is also linked to a character who knows Jason, suggesting that some of these seemingly random activities may have their own connections to the wider story.
Then there are the activities that simply let players have fun.
Basketball requires players to aim at the hoop and time their shots using R2, while successful shots can contribute to the Focus stat.
Swimming also has its own system, with the stamina meter changing into a lung capacity meter and an oxygen meter appearing when players go underwater.
For car fans, GTA 6 is offering a classic car collection activity involving Wyman. Players can find different car parts around Leonida and bring them back to him.
Eventually, those parts can be turned into complete cars that players can keep and drive.
Racing is also getting several different forms, including track racing, underground street racing and off-road events involving both cars and bikes.

Nitrous will also be available, giving players another reason to push their vehicles to the limit.
And then there’s the relationship between Jason and Lucia.
The pair can do activities together, including kayaking and working out, while other locations such as the zoo can potentially become date spots.
This makes the relationship feel more connected to the actual open world rather than something that only exists during story missions.
Of course, GTA 6 will still have plenty of traditional activities. Pool and mini golf are returning, while Rockstar has also shown wrestling, parachuting, shooting ranges, scuba diving and more.
Players can also simply explore Leonida and visit places such as nightclubs, strip clubs and a zoo.
Even the television inside GTA 6 is getting a lot of attention. Rockstar reportedly hired animators to create numerous in-game TV shows that players can watch, continuing one of the series’ most recognizable forms of world-building.
Taken together, these details paint a much bigger picture of what GTA 6 is trying to be.
Rockstar isn’t only building a huge map for players to drive through.
It is filling that map with activities that can affect Jason and Lucia, change their stats, build their relationship and give players reasons to keep exploring.
And that may be one of the biggest reasons GTA 6 could feel so different from GTA 5 once players finally get their hands on it.
