GTA 6 is reportedly beating the pre-order numbers of some of the biggest games of the past six years by a huge margin. A new report based on data from analytics firm Sensor Tower suggests that Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world game has already moved well ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), which previously led the comparison.

According to RockstarINTEL, Sensor Tower’s analysis found that GTA 6 had 148% more digital pre-orders than Modern Warfare 2 over a comparable period before launch. The comparison covers the period from 149 to 45 days before release and includes digital pre-orders made in the United States.

The figures do not include physical boxed pre-orders or purchases made outside the US, so they do not represent every copy ordered worldwide. Even with that limitation, the reported gap highlights the scale of demand for GTA 6 ahead of its November 19, 2026 release.

Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most successful Call of Duty games of recent years, earning a reported $800 million during its opening weekend. GTA 6’s lead in the pre-order comparison is therefore notable, although pre-orders and launch revenue measure different things.

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Is Also Performing Strongly

The report’s comparison also highlights the popularity of the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition. According to the data, pre-orders for the premium edition alone are not far behind those for the Standard Edition and are more than double Modern Warfare 2’s pre-orders at the comparable point.

Other major releases included in the comparison were Diablo IV, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part II. These games also attracted strong pre-launch interest, but Sensor Tower’s data places GTA 6 well ahead of them in the US digital pre-order comparison.

The strong performance of the Ultimate Edition suggests that many early buyers are willing to spend more for the premium version. However, the figures do not necessarily predict how many players will ultimately purchase each edition, as pre-orders can still be cancelled.

GTA 6 Has Reportedly Reached 6.45 Million Pre-Orders

A separate, newer Sensor Tower estimate puts GTA 6 at approximately 6.45 million digital pre-orders, representing around $630 million in estimated consumer spending. These figures are estimates from a third-party analytics firm, not official numbers released by Rockstar Games or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

The previous reported estimate, dated October 13, stood at around 6.08 million pre-orders and $594 million. The newer estimate therefore represents an increase of approximately 370,000 pre-orders and $36 million in spending over about a week.

PlayStation accounts for around 74% of the reported pre-orders, while Xbox represents approximately 26%. The Xbox share has reportedly increased by one percentage point over the preceding two weeks, although PlayStation continues to account for the larger portion.

The platform figures and total pre-order estimates should be treated as estimates rather than confirmed sales. The available reports do not establish that Rockstar has independently verified these numbers.

GTA 6 Pre-Orders Could Rise Further Before Launch

With GTA 6 scheduled to launch on November 19, the game still has several weeks to attract more pre-orders. Marketing activity has also increased, with Rockstar releasing its launch trailer and running television advertisements alongside online promotions.

The final stretch before release could bring another increase in orders, but the exact number of copies GTA 6 will sell before launch remains unknown. Sensor Tower’s estimates offer a useful look at early demand, but they cannot guarantee how the game will perform once it becomes available.

For now, the reported figures suggest that GTA 6 is setting a new pace for digital pre-orders among major recent releases. Whether that lead translates into a record-breaking launch will become clearer when the game arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
