Lucia and Jason already look like two of the best Grand Theft Auto characters ever, and fans are sharing their theories about the GTA 6 protagonists.
One of the most exciting aspects of a new Rockstar Games release is seeing what incredibly complex characters the team has written up for the game’s story.
Most recently, Red Dead Redemption 2 was a masterclass in character writing, with each member of the Van der Linde feeling like a true companion to Arthur Morgan.
Now, Lucia and Jason will be taking the reigns in GTA 6. And gamers already have a few theories to share regarding the dual protagonists.

Over on the GTA 6 subreddit, a community of over 1 million Reddit users, fans are theorizing about how Jason and Lucia’s relationship will play out.
Here are some of our favorite theories:
Love Is a Long Road
Ever since Trailer 1 was released on December 4, 2023, some users have suggested that Rockstar’s song choice could hint at the upcoming storyline.
Tom Petty’s ‘Love Is a Long Road’ could be telling the story of Jason’s love for Lucia and how it drives him to make some difficult decisions.
There was a girl I knew,
She said she cared about me.
She tried to make my world,
The way she thought it should be
Some fans even believe that these lyrics tie into the ‘Jason is an undercover cop’ theory. Could Jason be forced to choose between his loyalty to Lucia or his job?
Lucia Is Calling the Shots
It’s easy to make a statement like ‘Lucia is calling the shots’ when all we’ve heard out of Jason’s mouth is a single word: ‘Trust.’
However, as much as Trailer 1 is designed to focus on Lucia, it certainly gives the vibe that she’s in charge.
Everything from her taking the lead during the store robbery to her literally talking down to Jason as she sits atop him gives the impression that Lucia is the one making the plans.
Of course, if Trailer 2 focuses on Jason as fans hope, perhaps we’ll see a different side of our second protagonist soon.
Jason Is the Levelheaded Character
Perhaps in contrast to Lucia’s more dominating personality, many fans believe that Jason could act as a levelheaded foil to our first-ever voiced female protagonist.
Reddit user Minute-Better predicts that the duo’s dynamic will be similar to Arthur Morgan and Sadie Adler in Red Dead Redemption 2:
“Lucia looks to get a thrill out of committing crime & perhaps that will prove to be consequential. I can potentially imagine that Jason is the type of character that is taking things very seriously & is perhaps a criminal out of necessity.”
Many fans share the same opinion that Jason will get involved in criminal ventures for Lucia’s sake. And perhaps the man himself will be similar to GTA 4’s Niko Bellic in that he’s dragged into a life of crime against his will.
The Split Personality Disorder
One of the most absurd GTA 6 theories is that Lucia and Jason are, in fact, one character with a split personality disorder.
This theory comes from AlexStavru, who believes that Lucia and Jason are actually one and the same.

We imagine this comment wasn’t 100% serious, but the more we think about it, the more we think a split-personality protagonist could actually make for an interesting storyline.
That said, we don’t think there’s any chance that this theory will turn out to be correct.
The Bonnie and Clyde Comparison
Even before GTA 6 was officially revealed, leaks stated that it would have a male and female protagonist in a Bonnie and Clyde-esque relationship.
For those who are unaware, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were a pair of American bandits who committed a string of robberies during the time of the Great Depression in the early 1900s.
Evidence suggests that the couple were infatuated with one another, an idea that the 1967 film ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ popularized.
The real criminal duo were eventually ambushed by the law in Louisiana, where lawmen fired 130 rounds into their moving vehicle. Could Lucia and Jason, who appear to be romantically involved, meet a similar fate in GTA 6?
Some fans suggest that either Lucia or Jason could die in the game’s final mission, depending on player choices. Rockstar isn’t above killing off its protagonists, so we could certainly see that being a possibility!
It’s going to be a long wait until Fall 2025, but we’re eager to see how many fan predictions come true when GTA 6 finally releases.
