GTA 6 fans believe Jason Duval’s shirt contains a hidden reference to the original Grand Theft Auto, giving players another detail to look for in Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world game.
The discovery comes from the GTA 6 community on Reddit, where fans continue to examine the game’s artwork and footage for small details that could connect it to earlier entries in the series.
The post, titled “Jason’s shirt contains a GTA 1 reference” on Reddit, points to a possible callback hidden in Jason’s clothing.
While the exact meaning depends on the detail highlighted in the original post, the discovery has another reason for fans to take a closer look at the protagonist’s outfit.
The detail appears to connect to North Fort Law, a military base from the original Grand Theft Auto.
The Reddit post highlights a tattoo reading “U.S. Army Marauder Combat Training School” and compares it with the GTA Wiki entry for North Fort Law Military Base.
North Fort Law first appeared in the original 1997 Grand Theft Auto, making it an interesting possible callback to the franchise’s early days.
If Jason’s shirt or tattoo is intentionally connected to this location, it would be another example of Rockstar bringing small details from older games into GTA 6.
Rockstar has a long history of including references to previous games, and fans have already spotted several possible callbacks in GTA 6 trailers and promotional images.
One example is a decoration in Trailer 2 that appears to wear a shirt similar to Tommy Vercetti’s iconic outfit from GTA: Vice City. GamingBible covered that discovery in its report on the possible Tommy Vercetti Easter egg.
However, the GTA 1 reference remains a fan discovery rather than an officially confirmed Easter egg.
Rockstar has not explained whether the detail is intentional, so players will have to wait for more information to know if there is a deeper connection.
For now, the discovery gives longtime fans another reason to examine Jason’s outfit closely.
Even a small piece of clothing could contain a nod to the series’ history, and there may be more hidden references waiting to be found before GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026.
