Rockstar Games is facing another major leak, with a huge archive of previously private development files now circulating online.

The archive is reportedly around 192–200 GB in size and contains a large amount of GTA 5 source code and development data from the infamous 2022 Rockstar breach.

However, the files also reportedly include early GTA 6 development assets, giving fans another look at how Rockstar’s next game was being built in its early stages.

The leak is much larger than the smaller GTA 5 source-code package that appeared online in late 2023.

Reports say the newly surfaced archive contains a much wider range of Rockstar’s old development material.

Early GTA 6 Assets Appear in the Leak

One of the most interesting parts of the archive is the presence of early GTA 6 assets.

The leaked material reportedly contains early map assets, models and other development files from the early stages of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Some of the material appears to be from a much earlier version of the project, meaning it should not be treated as an accurate representation of the final GTA 6 map or game.

Some reports suggest the early files include low-detail versions of locations that eventually became part of Leonida and Vice City.

The files could give fans a better idea of how Rockstar’s plans for GTA 6 changed during development, although much of the material still needs to be examined and verified.

Cancelled Liberty City Expansion Also Appears

The biggest discovery may be an abandoned Liberty City expansion for GTA 5.

The leaked files reportedly contain data for a project known internally as LibertyV, which appears to have been a planned expansion featuring a much larger version of Liberty City.

The leaked map data suggests Rockstar had made significant progress on the project before it was cancelled.

The version shown in the files also appears to have been expanded beyond the Liberty City seen in GTA 4.

This has naturally led to speculation that Rockstar could eventually reuse the Liberty City content in GTA 6.

However, there is currently no confirmation that Liberty City will be added to GTA 6.

The leaked files show that the expansion existed as a GTA 5 project, but they do not prove that Rockstar moved the project to GTA 6 or plans to release it as DLC.

Cut GTA Online Content and Debug Builds

The archive reportedly contains much more than maps.

According to early reports, the files include cut GTA Online content, unused vehicles, early dialogue, development tools and debug builds from multiple platforms.

There are also reportedly debug menus and development builds that were never released to the public.

These could be particularly interesting to modders and researchers because they may reveal how Rockstar tested different parts of GTA 5 during development.

The files also reportedly contain material connected to the cancelled Agent Trevor DLC, along with other unused content from GTA 5.

Could Liberty City Come to GTA 6?

The Liberty City discovery is already causing plenty of discussion among GTA 6 fans.

Because Rockstar never released a traditional single-player expansion for GTA 5, some fans have wondered whether ideas from cancelled projects could eventually return in GTA 6.

The leaked Liberty City files make that possibility interesting, but there is still a big difference between unused Rockstar content and confirmed GTA 6 DLC.

Rockstar could reuse some of the old assets, completely rebuild them, or simply leave the project cancelled.

At this point, there is no official evidence showing that Liberty City is planned for GTA 6.

Rockstar Has Not Confirmed the Leak

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not officially confirmed the contents of the newly circulating archive.

The files are also still being examined, so some claims being shared online could change as researchers learn more about what is actually included.

For now, the safest conclusion is that the leak appears to contain a large collection of old Rockstar development files, including GTA 5 source code, cancelled content and some very early GTA 6 material.

It is also important to remember that this is connected to previously stolen Rockstar data rather than a new GTA 6 source-code breach. GTA 6 itself is not represented by the entire 200 GB archive.

Still, the discovery of early GTA 6 assets and the cancelled Liberty City expansion makes this one of the more interesting Rockstar leaks to surface in recent months.
