Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about how well GTA VI will run. Some leaks suggest that even the new PS5 Pro won’t support 60FPS for certain games, including GTA 6.

Leaks Suggest the Same!

Recently, various sources have leaked detailed specifications for Sony’s upcoming console. Insider Gaming has provided the most comprehensive list of leaked specs so far, based on their sources.

The console is expected to be released during the holiday season of 2024, with a significant emphasis on a custom upscaling solution.

This aspect has sparked discussions among fans, who are speculating about how much better the PS5 Pro will run GTA VI compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

However, it seems that PlayStation’s high hopes for GTA VI might not pan out as expected, according to experts like Richard Leadbetter.

Leadbetter, in a recent Digital Foundry video, mentioned that he has seen the documents regarding the PS5 Pro and can confirm its specifications.

He also advised fans not to anticipate GTA VI running on a PS5 Pro based on these leaked specs. The reason is that the Pro console is only expected to receive a 10% boost in CPU performance, which is not sufficient to double the frame rate from 30 to 60.

“You know all of the sort of conjectures that “Hey, this is going to be a great box for Grand Theft Auto 6, we’ll be able to run that at 60 frames per second…” unless there’s some magical CPU stuff being done by Rockstar, I suggest that’s not going to happen. Extra 10% on clocks isn’t really going to do much at all.

Richard Leadbetter has a solid track record of revealing accurate information about hardware, including Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Digital Foundry, under Leadbetter’s guidance, has consistently provided reliable details ahead of time and has collaborated with companies like Microsoft to analyze and educate on new hardware.

While it’s possible that Rockstar Games could create a 60 frames per second (FPS) quality mode for the PS5 Pro by compromising heavily on visuals, whether they would be willing to do so remains uncertain. We’ll have to wait and see what decision they make.

Additionally, according to a report from Insider Gaming last week, development kits for the PS5 Pro are already in the hands of Sony’s first-party studios as well as third-party developers.

Partners have reportedly had access to development versions of the console since January of this year. It’s likely that Rockstar Games, being one of the major third-party studios, has received PS5 Pro development kits as well.
