For years, Rockstar has followed the same pattern: release every new Grand Theft Auto game on consoles first, and then bring it to PC later.
This delay usually happens because launching a game on PC comes with extra challenges, and releasing on consoles first helps Rockstar make the most money early on.
PC gaming offers far more freedom than consoles. Players can create custom servers, mods, and unique experiences that go way beyond the usual gameplay.
While this is great for players, it makes things more complicated for Rockstar.
But things are changing. Even Rockstar and Take-Two now seem to understand that PC gaming is becoming a major force, if it isn’t already on top.
Rockstar and Take-Two Are Now Focusing More on PC

According to a report from Eurogamer, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently spoke on CNBC’s Squawk Box about the direction of the gaming industry.
Zelnick said, “I think the industry is moving towards PC, and business is moving towards open rather than closed.”
He explained that big-screen gaming isn’t going anywhere, but PC is becoming a much more important platform for both players and game developers.
He also talked about the fast-growing mobile market. Even though mobile gaming often divides players, it continues to grow because almost everyone owns a smartphone.
“Mobile is something you take with you, it’s repeatable, and it’s enjoyable,” Zelnick said. He believes mobile will keep growing faster because it reaches the widest audience.
Mobile gaming has also become more serious thanks to cloud gaming and the ability to connect controllers and other accessories.
And based on a recent earnings call, Zelnick expects Take-Two’s mobile earnings to jump by 10% next quarter, which explains why they’re keeping a close eye on the market.
What This Means for the Next GTA PC Release

There is some good news here for GTA fans: with Rockstar placing more focus on PC, the next Grand Theft Auto may arrive on PC much sooner than past releases.
While Rockstar will still want to separate the console and PC releases mainly to maximise revenue, the gap between launches might be shorter this time.
That means PC players won’t have to wait as long to start building big mod projects or enjoy the game with full freedom.
The Console Wars Aren’t Over, They’re Just Changing

In the end, the gaming landscape is shifting.
PC is rising, mobile is growing fast, and consoles remain strong.
The so-called “Console Wars” are not ending, they’re simply evolving as the industry changes.
