The official trailer gave a glimpse of what the American gaming studio has been working on for over ten years. While the reveal was exciting, some fans are concerned that the game might not have a fast refresh rate of 60 frames per second.

Even though Rockstar Games hasn’t said anything about it yet, the guesses from fans might be right. This article talks about why Grand Theft Auto 6 might not have a 60 FPS framerate when it first comes out.

Fan explains why Rockstar Games may not provide 60 FPS in GTA 6 during its launch

On January 19, 2024, a user on X named GameRoll (@GameRollGTA) shared their thoughts on why Rockstar Games might not offer a fast 60 FPS during the first release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

The user said that even though the studio is known for making games that really test the limits of gaming devices, some things in the first GTA 6 trailer suggested there could be a limit of up to 30 FPS.

They explained that in the open world of GTA 6, there were a lot of NPCs (non-player characters), and each one was unique. Having such a diverse group of NPCs could make the console CPUs (the brains of the gaming systems) work really hard. They were worried about whether the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles could handle all these details while keeping a smooth 60 FPS framerate.

It’s important to know that Rockstar Games will release GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in 2025. These consoles came out in 2020 and are now in the middle of their life cycle. Even though video games are getting better, the CPUs (the brains) in the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles are the same as when they were first released.

Because of this, these consoles might struggle to run the game at its best, keeping a steady 60 frames per second (FPS). The trailer showed really cool graphics, lifelike physics, and hints of advanced lighting effects like ray tracing and global illumination. Although the PS5 and Xbox Series X are powerful gaming consoles, they might not be able to handle all the features of GTA 6 with a high framerate.

GameRoll also mentioned something called “performance mode” that Rockstar Games and other game studios use. But, to keep a steady 60 frames per second (FPS), this mode might have to make certain parts of the games not look as good. Additionally, the YouTube video thought to show in-game footage, doesn’t have an option for 60 FPS.

So, some people think it might be unrealistic to expect all the cool graphics seen in the trailer with a smooth 60 FPS when the new game first comes out. However, they think it could happen if Rockstar decides to release GTA 6 on a computer (PC) or in the future on gaming consoles.
